Job overview

Viapath are inviting applications to join our ever-growing team of highly skilled Phlebotomists on a Part Time position (17.5 hrs; 20hrs; 25hrs; 30hrs). Post across King’s College Hospital-Denmark Hill, Guy’s and St Thomas (GSTT) Site. advert going on to  NHS Jobs and Reed Jobs,

We would like to hear from people who are keen, enthusiastic, flexible and committed to improving our patient’s experience. To be considered for these roles, candidates should possess excellent customer service skills and be able to demonstrate this during the selection process. Some experience working within a role as a Phlebotomist would be highly beneficial. You must have excellent spoken and written English, be numerate and have first class dexterity skills.  

You will be required to work alongside medical and nursing staff and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role will require you to work in a multitude of locations ranging from wards, outpatients, clinics and community services (including a variety of geographic locations). 

Main duties of the job

 

You will be required to undertake a range of protocol driven tasks, working to tight targets and deadlines. These tasks will include being required to handle clinical specimens, accurately record data for quality assurance monitoring procedures, as well as other administrative duties.

Concentration and attention to details are essential to this role. The post holder will offer a helpful and professional service to all visitors and telephone callers and will assist in the provision of a high quality service

Please note: You will be required to work a flexible shift pattern between 06:30 and 18:30 Monday – Sunday.

Your development and learning 

You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through The Viapath Way Development programme, the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the ViAcademy through which you can receive funding / support for advanced qualifications.  

Through our Innovation Accelerator Fund, you can apply for finance to get that new innovative scientific project off the ground, and participate with the wider scientific community through symposiums, conferences and other peer group meetings.

Working for our organisation

We operate Phlebotomy, or blood test, departments across our London hospital sites (which provide blood tests on a walk-in basis) and local Community GP based services (by appointment only) within Southwark, Lambeth & GBL CCG.

We also provide a specialist Paediatric service at St Thomas', King’s College & Princess Royal University Hospitals.

We primarily see patients who are referred by their Consultant or GP. At Guy’s Hospital, we provide a service for GP patients only.

We also provide a unique Phlebotomy training programme focused on teaching the fundamentals of venepuncture, and putting this knowledge into practice

Essential Qualifications

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent. Inclusive of Maths and English.

Essential Experience

Proven IT skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desirable Experience

Phlebotomy Experience.
Participation in quality initiatives such as audit.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

Ability to write accurately and legibly.
Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise and organise work.
Good communication skills and fluency in spoken English.
Sensitive to the needs of patients and their phobias, and circumstances.
High standards of customer service.
Able to follow guidelines and protocols.
Able to maintain patient, staff and commercial confidentiality.
Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues.
Pleasant disposition, able to work alone using initiative and as part of a team – Flexible and adaptable.
Ability to remain calm whilst working under pressure and to tight deadlines / targets.
Ability to work with own initiative.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good attendance and timekeeping record.
