Job overview

The Performance Team works across Viapath to manage, maintain and develop the Operations Performance Management System (OPMS) and Management Information (MI) tools. The OPMS framework is essential to ensure appropriate actions are being taken on a timely basis, at the right level, to enable pro-active decision making at all levels of the business from the Laboratories to the Board. The Performance Team work to ensure services are supported and engaged in active performance review and implementing performance improvements across Viapath.

Main duties of the job

We are recruiting for the position of a Data and Information Analyst to join an inclusive team that is responsible for supporting operations and providing visible performance information through OPMS and MI tools to support all services and teams to actively review and improve performance.

The role is essential to enable the continued sustainability and development of OPMS principles and tools. The post holder will work closely with the Performance Manager to embed the concept of OPMS and performance review throughout Viapath. 

The successful candidate will display logical problem solving skills, be an experienced IT user, have troubleshooting experience and the ability to review operational reports. Coupled with effective interpersonal and communication skills, the successful candidate will work to ensure the effective maintenance and development of OPMS tools.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

The Data and Information Analyst is responsible for supporting the sustainability and development of OPMS by ensuring action plans are adhered to, OPMS MI Tools are fully functional and developed (as required to enable improved reporting and analysis), and that data is being understood and interpreted correctly by users.  As a result there are a number of key focus areas:

Technical Responsibilities & Data Analysis
•    Ensure OPMS MI Tools are fully functional, developed as required and that data is being understood and interpreted correctly.
•    To continually evaluate OPMS MI Tools functionality, escalate potential issues in the appropriate manner and recommend improvements to tools and/or frameworks.
•    To provide coaching and training for operational teams and where appropriate, operations managers, on the understanding and usage of the operating reports in the context of the OPMS Framework to support fact based decision making.
•    Support other business functions by data mining, extracting and modelling data for various projects, including Business Development bid planning and negotiation, Service Improvement Lean Six Sigma projects, etc.

Performance Analysis
•    To work with department teams to drive OPMS principles into the operational model.
•    To support OPMS sustainability by actively assisting in area-by-area business wide sustainability review.
•    To support the Performance Manager with the monthly reporting cycle and ad-hoc reporting requirements.
•    Where appropriate, support implementation of OPMS into new areas of the business / external business development opportunities.

Additional duties and responsibilities
•    To support any department initiatives.
•    Strict adherence to the Departmental Health and Safety regulations.
•    To participate in an annual PPR cycle, and be assessed against competences of the role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Microsoft Office Certification (Specialist or above)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Hands on troubleshooting experience in a data analysis environment
  • Experience in reviewing, interpreting and validating data
  • Experienced IT user with proficient working or practical knowledge of Excel, Work, PowerPoint and Outlook
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of operational metrics in an OPMS / Viapath Planning Guidelines context
  • Experience of advanced Excel functions such as data management, advanced formulas and Visual Basic for Applications

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Effective time management and organisation skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to identify problems and to make/gather suggestions for improvements
  • Ability to quickly react and adapt to new working environments
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of pathology environment at operational level
