These roles will be based in the Newborn Screening Laboratory, which works closely alongside the Inherited Metabolic Disease Laboratory. In the future there is potential opportunity for Medical Laboratory Assistants across the Department to work together.
The successful candidates will primarily be key members of the team providing the South East London Newborn Screening Service, which analyses around 60,000 newborn samples per year. They will provide a first class proactive and dynamic support service to Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientists. This includes a wide range of duties such as handling and processing of patient specimens as well as many other laboratory and administrative based tasks. The post-holder will be expected to work in accordance with laboratory quality and health and safety policies and also participate in departmental improvement projects where appropriate. The post-holders will work closely with Clinical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists and other Medical Laboratory Assistants on a daily basis and must be able to reliably and efficiently communicate with all grades of staff in Pathology and other departments within the Trust involved in the provision of the clinical service.
The post-holders will be expected to work as part of a team and work accurately under pressure. They will also be expected to manage and prioritise their workload, act on their own initiative, work without supervision, and to suggest changes in their day-to-day working practice that could impact favourably on their productivity and contribution to the department.
Interview will be held: February 4, 2020
