This permanent Biomedical Scientist post (Band 6 AfC equivalent) offers an exciting opportunity for a HCPC registered BMS to further develop their knowledge and skills in clinical biochemistry.
You will be part of a team that provides a highly specialised laboratory service using the latest technologies in the Biochemical Sciences Department at St Thomas’ Hospital. The department comprises four laboratories; Newborn Screening Laboratory for the South East Thames region, Reference Chemistry, Purine Research Laboratory and the Inherited Metabolic Disease Laboratory.
The post will involve working with analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry, capillary and gel electrophoresis, ELISA, FT-IR and real-time PCR. Within this role you will also work closely with our clinical scientist teams providing a unique insight into the management of patients. There will also be exciting opportunities to assist with method development and streamlining of laboratory processes. This post is initially based in the Reference Chemistry Laboratory, although in the future could rotate into the other areas within Biochemical Sciences.
The Biochemical Sciences Department is enthusiastic about training and career development, and will support you with future learning and development opportunities with the aid of the Viapath Scientific Learning and Development Fund. There will also be opportunity to attend conferences, user group meetings and Viapath Way Training when events arise.
The post holder will be required to participate in the Immunosuppressant weekend and bank holiday rota (approximately 1 shift every 6-8weeks).
Applicants must have HCPC registration and completed either the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Biochemistry or an equivalent MSc. Candidates who are nearing completion of either of these qualifications are encouraged to apply.
